Transparent LEGO Mosaic

“Veni Sancte Spiritus” is a LEGO mosaic rendition of something I saw on vacation at The Vatican. Artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini created a beautiful piece – the central work of art in the apse of St. Peter’s Basilica – depicting the Holy Spirit descending in the form of a dove.

My version uses black and translucent colored LEGO elements to allow light to pass through the colors just like a true stained glass depiction would. The results were stellar.

This piece was created in Richmond, Virginia, and did a multi-year tour at the Plastic Toy & Brick Museum in Bellaire, Ohio before it was sadly destroyed. An attempt this magnificent may not happen again.

…or will it?

"Veni, Sancte Spiritus":
