LEGO Mosaic: "Mona Lisa"

This brightly-colored Lego mosaic portrait was commissioned by the Frazier History Museum in Louisville, Kentucky.
I traveled from Richmond to Louisville to help the museum get local (and ultimately, national) attention for the museum's DaVinci: The Genius exhibit. I built this piece as an artist in residence for patrons and local media (FOX, ABC, CBS).
Many asked why I went with an orange shade for Lisa. I thought it would look bold and a bit different than the original, which I often think of as drab and a bit dull. This Lego portrait is also quite a bit larger than the original Mona Lisa, so it was all about getting attention.
The local media TV footage ended up getting syndicated to more than 100 cities across the country. The museum's reach that day extended from Seattle to Tampa, from Bangor to San Diego.
