Brickworkz LEGO mosaics : Blog : Brickworld 2007, Day 3 Brickworld 2007, Day 3Insanity. Craziness. Happiness, and joy. That's how I would describe the first public day of Brickworld 2007. The line (of what would become an estimated 2,700 visitors) ran out the door of the long hotel hallway. At 9am, the swarms entered the massive ballroom, where trains were whizzing, robots were moving around and the great ball contraptions were in full force. People flocked by to see what Baby Mia was all about. She has quite literally stolen the show at my booth. She's a celebrity here among the AFOLs and general public. Those Klauses really can take the limelight and run with it!! :-) The day never lacked in visitors. Last year's BrickFest had waves of crowds, and yesterday's BrickWorld event had no ebb, just a constant flow of people from 9 - 4. I remained trapped behind the booth, shaking hands, handing out cards and spreading the Brickworkz love. I met some great people too. Beth Weis and I had collaborated on a Chicago Bears mosaic design. She ended up taking the LEGO art award at last night's awards ceremony. It really was a great day for LEGO fans here in Chicago, and beyond. I met people who came down from Canada, and drove from the East Coast to be here. (I had previously thought that I was the only nut who drove the long haul from Virginia!) The highlight of my day was when a 7-year old boy came up to the booth and asked for my autograph. It moved me that I had inspired him to be (or stay) creative and that meant so much to me. After a full day of standing on my feet and working on the new Jeff and Olivia mosaic, I knew my day wasn't complete until I met my obligation to run. Today being Saturday, it was my long-run day, which meant 6 miles. I had dreamed in Virginia of running back along Lakeshore trail, in the heart of downtown Chicago, between Lake Michigan and the cityscape. So, regardless of how tired I felt at the time, I cleaned up the booth area and then got in the van and headed downtown.
The run was fantastic. It was overcast, but the view was as I remembered it- stunning. The water was extremely choppy, and gazing at it while running made the time fly. 6 miles later, I was back in the van heading to the hotel. It was a really long day, but this is what Brickworld is all about- fatigue and fun. Play well, Posted by Brian Korte on June 23, 2007 What do you think?
